Silver in Chicago

"Michael Kutza, Founder and Artistic Director of the Chicago International Film Festival, Mimi Plauché, Head of Programming, and Programmers Penny Bartlett and Lee Ferdinand and Competitions Coordinator Alex Kopecky proudly announce the winners of the 47th Chicago International Film Festival Competitions. This year’s selection of more than 180 feature-length fiction films, documentaries and shorts was one of the strongest in the past decade."

The New Directors Competition Jury that included Eileen Favorite, Tom Quinn, and Michael Raine, awarded The Silver Hugo to VOLCANO by Runar Runarsson (Iceland/Denmark)

The Jury's statement:
"a film that triggers a deep emotional response that has nothing to do with sentimentality. It juxtaposes domestic space with the dramatic Icelandic landscape to riveting effect. Not just another film about redemption, Rúnar Rúnarsson's debut depicts the moral ambiguity of the choices facing a complex, older man."
